Glamping

Croft 183 trades as Barra Holidays and sits at Balnabodach on the east coast of Barra, looking across the Minch. The camping field takes ten tents, and there are five drive-in pitches for motorhomes up to 10 metres, which can have hook-up. A central building has a camper's lounge with a kitchen, TV and games, plus toilets, showers and a laundrette, and there is a separate area set aside for dog walking.

If you would rather not pitch a tent, the same croft lets five lodging rooms (some with their own kitchen), a lined yurt, a two-bedroom cottage and an eight-berth static caravan. Seals, otters and sea eagles are regular sightings, and the clear skies make it a good place for stargazing. Castlebay, the airport and the beaches are a short drive away and a local bus passes.
