Balinoe Campsite has been going since 2007 in the south-west of the Isle of Tiree, in one of the few spots on the island with trees. It has roughly 20 pitches: grass for tents, and hardstanding or grass for campervans, motorhomes and caravans, all with 13 amp hook-up. The nearest beach is a 10 to 15 minute walk.

The shared facilities sit in a modernised WWII Nissen hut: cooker, hot water, tables, fridge, freezer, kettle, toaster, washing machine and free wifi, with a heated shower cubicle for off-season use and extra seasonal showers and toilets alongside. Bring your own pots, pans and crockery. There is a barn for storing bikes and watersports kit.

Two small storm pods (sleeping two) and two bothies (the Big Bothy takes three or four) cover people who arrive by plane or want something sturdier than a tent. There is also a self-catering cottage next door.

The site is only staffed for about an hour after each ferry arrives, so come straight from the boat to be shown a pitch; staff are also usually around after 8pm. Check ferry or Loganair availability before you book here, since peak-season crossings fill up.

  • Beach ten to fifteen minutes on foot
  • Electric hook-up on every pitch
