Canna is a small, car-free Inner Hebrides island with about twenty residents, and this is its campsite and self-catering base. You sail from Mallaig on the CalMac Small Isles ferry, and the hosts meet you at the pier and take your luggage up, about a mile, while you walk.
Tents go on a west-facing site with two toilets, two hot showers, drinking water, a cookshack with a gas ring, picnic tables and free fire pits. There is no electricity or wifi at the campsite, and no fridge, though they will lend a cool box. Pods, two caravans, a croft cabin and a bunkhouse cover anyone who would rather not carry a tent.
The island has a 24-hour honesty community shop, a cafe open April to September, walking, birdwatching with eagles and puffins, and very dark skies. Dogs are welcome and the hosts supply bowls and towels.
