Balranald Hebridean Holidays

Family-run beachside campsite inside the RSPB Balranald reserve on North Uist, with hard-standing and grass pitches, a pod and a croft cottage.

  • Dogs welcome
  • Near beach
  • Glamping

Balranald is a small crofting-township campsite on the west coast of North Uist, set among the machair and farmland of the RSPB reserve. Horseshoe Bay is about 40 metres from the entrance, and the birdlife is the main draw: waders and farmland birds nest around the pitches, and corncrakes can be heard from the pod.

There are nineteen hard-standing pitches with hook-up for motorhomes and caravans, grass pitches for tents and campervans (most with power), and a single camping pod. Two heated blocks have coin-operated showers, a drying room, washing machine and a campers' fridge and kettle, with free wifi across the site. Dogs and other pets are welcome on the pitches without charge. A separate cabin on site serves rolls, soup and baking from April to September, and a one-bedroom croft cottage a mile away can also be booked.

  • Sandy beach a stone's throw from the entrance
  • Pitches beside the RSPB Balranald reserve
  • Corncrake pod for two
  • Pets welcome free of charge on pitches
  • £1 coin showers that run 7.5 minutes
