Lickisto sits beside Loch Stockinish in the Bays area of South Harris, a short drive from the Tarbert and Leverburgh ferries and about ten minutes from the west-coast beaches. The camping is in a sheltered wooded valley and on more open ground with sea views, and the paths between are uneven. There is no vehicle access to the tent pitches, so the owner lends wheelbarrows for carrying gear down.

The heart of the site is a 150-year-old blackhouse that now holds the showers, toilets, basic cooking space, a washing machine and a tumble dryer, and doubles as the place people gather in the evening. Beyond tent pitches and campervan spaces with electric hook-up, you can stay in a wood-burner yurt, a bell tent, a converted cattle-byre bothy, or a geodesic dome that is being added. Dogs are welcome, and there is kayak, paddle board and fishing-rod hire, plus a small gift shop.
