Winshields is a traditional field campsite at the foot of Winshields Crag, close to the Hadrian's Wall Path. Walkers can step off the trail and straight into the tent fields, and the Pennine Way and Hadrian's Cycleway are both close.

It is a low-key place aimed at walkers and cyclists, with tents on open grass and campervans on the hardstanding beside the stone barns. Cars stay in the on-site parking rather than on the camping fields, and large tents are not a good fit. The Twice Brewed Inn and the Sill visitor centre are a short walk away, and a converted farm building has bunk rooms if the weather turns.
