Grizedale Camp Site

Working-farm campsite near Grizedale Forest with woodland tent pitches, yurts, pods, shepherd's huts and a bunk barn, all dog friendly and open all year.

  • Dogs welcome
  • Campfires
  • Glamping

Grizedale Camp Site is part of Bowkerstead Farm in Satterthwaite, about a mile and a half south of the Grizedale Forest visitor centre. Tents go in the fields below the farm or in the wooded areas, and small campervans can use a few hardstanding spots. Motorhomes are not accepted and there are no electric hook-ups anywhere on site.

Beyond the tent fields there is a good spread of sleeping options in the woods: pods, yurts with log burners, two sizes of shepherd's hut and a bunk barn that sleeps six. None have mains electricity, so bring a torch. Everything is on a cash-only basis, with the nearest cash machine in Hawkshead.

Campfires are allowed on site and you have to buy your wood from the farm. Dogs are welcome on leads but not in the facilities buildings. The Eagles Head pub is a ten-minute walk, and walking and cycle routes start at the site.
