Chapel Field is the Firle Estate sister to Woodfire's original Westerlands site, in the South Downs National Park near Lewes. It is a single open paddock with plenty of room between pitches, a small wood with dens and a swing, and no electricity or lighting, so bring a torch. You park by the entrance and wheelbarrow your kit to your pitch.
The hook is the food: the team cooks breakfast and an evening meal over fire most days, ordered in advance and put on a tab you settle when you leave. Facilities are roomy hot showers, compost toilets and a covered washing-up area. Pitch anywhere in the field, or hire one of five large canvas tents with airbeds. Firle village, a pub and the South Downs Way are a short walk away. Open weekends and school holidays from May to September.
