Wasdale Head Campsite
Small walkers' tent field opposite the Wasdale Head Inn at the foot of the high fells, pay-on-arrival at reception, no advance booking and no vehicles on the field.
This is the inn's own tent field, across from the Wasdale Head Inn at the head of the valley. It is a simple place to pitch after a day on Scafell Pike, Great Gable or the Wasdale fells, and everything is organised through the inn's reception.
You walk in over a stile rather than driving onto the grass, with free parking nearby. Campers get their own toilets, a wash-up sink and coin-fed hot showers. Breakfast is available to buy at the inn, and the inn will look after your tent for a small charge if you head off on a multi-day walk.
There is no advance booking. You check in and pay at reception before pitching, and the field is usually only full on the August bank holiday weekend. Tents are limited to four people, groups are not taken, and fires and barbecues are not allowed.
