- Glamping
Syke Farm is a walkers' campsite at the top of Buttermere village, run by the farm family that has let the field for around forty years. Tents go in a grassy field reached over a small wooden bridge from the car park, and you choose your own spot on arrival: pitch numbers on the booking are only references.
Facilities are deliberately simple. There is a toilet block with a shower on each side and a separate shelter with a shower and toilet, all coin-metered. There are no electric pitches, though sockets in the toilets and shelter are there if you need to charge something. The farm tearoom is a short walk away and does breakfast for campers, homemade ice cream and raw meat for the barbecue.
A single shepherd's hut on the site sleeps two, with a wood burner and a kitchen, but washing facilities are in the shared block. Campervans up to about 6m and roof tent boxes are allowed, but only in a marked bay in the car park, not in the tent field.
