- Campfires
Chapel House Farm is a working sheep farm in Stonethwaite, up the Borrowdale valley from Keswick, and the campsite is deliberately old-school: no electric, no washing machines, a retro toilet block and 50p hot showers. Water is mains and safe to drink, and there is a freezer in the barn for ice packs. It is a good base for the Borrowdale fells and Lake Derwentwater, with a bus service nearby that stops early evening.
Pricing is per person per night, paid in cash on arrival, with no charge for dogs, cars, caravans or motorhomes. The owners run it as a quiet site, with quiet from 10:30pm, no loud music or parties, and no drones. Walkers arriving on foot are guaranteed space; anyone else is best off emailing ahead, especially for groups of six or more, caravans, or vans over 6 metres.
