Castlerigg Farm Camping and Caravan Site

A quiet, hilltop family site above Keswick with wide fell and Derwentwater views, a strict 10.30pm silence rule and a walk down to town through the woods.

See all 14 photos
  • Dogs welcome

Castlerigg Farm sits on a slope above Keswick, run by the family who live at the entrance. The views run across the fells towards Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite, and the town is about 25 minutes on foot through woodland or five minutes by car. It stays open all year.

The main thing to know is how it runs. There is a firm silence rule from 10.30pm to 7am, the gates close to vehicles at 10pm, and groups are not accepted, so it suits families, couples and solo campers rather than gatherings. Electric pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes can be reserved online. Tent pitches without electric cannot be booked ahead and are first come, first served on the day.

The facilities were rebuilt recently and include underfloor-heated washrooms, a laundry, a dish-washing room, a campers' day room and boot room, a shop with gas exchange, and a dog-walking field with a warm dog shower. Two self-catering options sit next to the touring field: a static caravan and, new for 2026, a converted barn called The Hayloft. Fully serviced pitches are being added once the electrics are in.
