Lanefoot Farm sits between Braithwaite and Thornthwaite, below Whinlatter Forest, with Skiddaw, Grisedale Pike and Cat Bells all in view. The campsite is two fields of about two acres each. In the Open Field, tents go in the top half and caravans, motorhomes, campervans and roof-tent vehicles on hardstanding in the lower half; you choose your own spot on arrival. The Meadow Field has the pods and the shepherd's hut.
Facilities are simple and well kept: heated showers, washing-up sinks in a warm room, a drying room for wet days, an information room and a small shop for breakfast basics. Electric hook-ups are available on the pitches. Campfires are allowed off the ground in a container, using kiln-dried logs bought on site. Dogs are free but must be on a lead. There is no music, quiet time starts at 10pm and groups are not taken, apart from Duke of Edinburgh parties. Braithwaite is about half a mile away and the X5 bus runs past.
