Aird Donald has been run by the same family since the 1960s. It sits on the edge of Stranraer, a mile from the town centre, with thousands of planted trees around it for shelter and a lot of birdlife. It is also about six miles from the Cairnryan ferry terminals, which makes it a handy stop on the way to or from Northern Ireland.

Touring caravans and motorhomes (up to 8m) use electric hook-up pitches on grass or hardstanding; there are a few non-electric gravel pitches for campervans. Tents have their own flat, sheltered field with no hook-ups, a covered cook house, a washing-up building and a play area. Three camping barrels, one large and two standard, offer a roof over your head if you would rather not bring a tent.

Grass areas open from the end of April to the end of September, weather permitting. Hardstanding is used the rest of the year, so the park is open all year for tourers.
