Windhaven sits on Brough Bay on the north coast of Caithness, about 20 minutes from Thurso and three miles from Dunnet Head, and calls itself the most northerly campsite on the UK mainland. The camping is over two and a half acres of grass with a couple of hardstandings for vans, and the sea and Orkney are visible from the pitches. There is a seal viewing spot by the site.

Facilities are two showers, three toilets, a hot-water outdoor wash-up area and a recreation room for wet days. There are only four electric hook-ups, and none for motorhomes. Dogs stay free but must be kept on a lead and walked in a separate fenced field. Pitches are booked by phone, first come first served. Three B&B rooms with breakfast are also available.
