Caithness Camping Pods are on Cairn of Dunn, a family-run croft near Watten, roughly midway between Wick and Thurso. The pods look over Loch Watten, the biggest loch in Caithness, and the hosts run the place on regenerative, permaculture lines.

Think of the pods as a hard-walled tent. Each has two comfortable beds, with room on the floor for a third air bed for a child, and they are double glazed and insulated but not heated. There is no electricity or wifi, and you bring your own bedding, cooking gear and stove. Cooking is not allowed inside the pods, so there is a separate cooking area.

The toilet is a waterless composting design and there are no showers on site; the leisure centres in Wick and Thurso have them for a small fee. The coast is about ten miles away in three directions, and there is an hourly bus between Wick and Thurso at the end of the lane.
