Wheems is a working organic farm on the southern tip of South Ronaldsay, linked to Mainland Orkney by the Churchill Barriers. The camping field is terraced and planted with shrubs, with tent pitches along the sea-view side and hardstanding bays for campervans higher up. Cliffs and the beach at Newark Bay are about five minutes on foot.

Besides pitches there is a lot to choose from: a wood-stove yurt, four little farm-built pods with glass doors facing the sea, two off-grid shepherd's huts and a self-catering loft. Everyone shares one shower block, a covered camp kitchen, a conservatory with a wood stove, a communal pizza oven and an honesty shop with farm produce. The owners live on site, and the farm has Highland cows, pigs and hens.
