Doone Valley Campsite, known to regulars as Carol's Campsite, is a run of level fields beside a shallow stream at Malmsmead, on the Devon side of the Exmoor border in the valley made famous by the novel Lorna Doone. You drive in through the car park at Malmsmead and the camping fields are at the far end. Hills and trees close in around it, and the famous Doone Valley walk starts close by.

The main Meadows field takes up to 40 tents, caravans, campervans and motorhomes, with no electric hook-ups (the owner will charge phones and e-bikes if you ask). Two separate fields, Stone Circle and Tree, are for groups of up to 30 and are used for rallies and parties, and a small family field takes up to six tents. Facilities are toilets, free hot showers, pot wash and free wifi. Dogs on leads are welcome, and fire pits can be hired, with logs and kindling for sale, but fires on the ground are not allowed.
