Bruce's Cave Camping and Caravan Park

Bruce's Cave sits in the grounds of the Cove Estate near Kirkpatrick Fleming, an 80-acre wooded estate above the Kirtle Water that also holds the cave where Robert the Bruce is said to have hidden in the 14th century. The touring and tent fields look across the Solway Firth towards the Cumbrian hills, and the whole place is quiet and tucked away. You bring your own tent, van or motorhome; there is no hire fleet. Two camping pods with electric hook-up are the only rooms to book.

The site has individual family shower rooms, a toilet for disabled guests, a baby-changing bathroom, a shop and reception for essentials, and a children's play park and football pitch in a separate corner. Guests can fish the Kirtle Water for trout at no charge, or pay a small fee for the coarse pond, and there is a dog-walking area by the river. The Station pub and restaurant is a 15-minute walk away. From November to March the shop, dishwashing area and laundrette close and only two toilet and shower rooms stay open.
