Birchwood Farm is a working farm that has taken campers since the 1920s, reached by a drive through woodland off the B5035 between Whatstandwell and Wirksworth. Tents, caravans, motorhomes and campervans all use grass pitches, with 37 electric hook-ups and ten hardstanding pitches that also have water and a grey-water drain.
The facilities are straightforward and well kept: a toilet and shower block with free hot showers, a separate family and disabled room, a launderette with token machines, a covered washing-up area with hot water, a small shop with gas, and a play area plus a covered table-tennis barn. The site sits right beside the High Peak Trail, so walking and cycling to Cromford and Wirksworth starts at the gate.
Dogs are welcome on a lead, but open fires are not allowed. Two static caravans are let by the week from Saturday to Saturday. The pitches are not completely level.
