Beardown Farm

Back-to-basics wild camping on a Dartmoor hill farm by the West Dart and Cowsic rivers, with a camping pod and a few campervan spots.

  • Some dogs
  • Campfires
  • Glamping

Beardown Farm is a working hill farm of 1,100 acres on the high moor near Two Bridges, about a mile and a half from Princetown. Camping is deliberately simple: an outside tap, fire pits and a composting toilet, with no showers, electricity or wifi.

There are two camping areas. The Riverside field sits in a sheltered valley across the Cowsic with an old clapper bridge, boggy in places and prone to flooding after heavy rain; it can be booked for exclusive use. The Leat field is more level, next to the Devonport Leat, within 100 metres of vehicle access and suited to larger groups such as school or Duke of Edinburgh parties.

A small timber camping pod sleeps four, with its own toilet and electric shower, and a few unlevelled field spots take medium-sized campervans. Dogs are welcome on the camping fields if well behaved around livestock, but not in the pod.
