The Lazy Duck is a small, family-run retreat on the edge of Abernethy Forest in the Cairngorms National Park. There are no pitches: you stay in one of three off-grid huts for two, a four-person bunkhouse or a five-person cottage, all self-catering.
The Woodman's Hut is the most basic, on a hill with a woodburner, solar lighting, compost loo and an outdoor shower you heat yourself. The Duck's Nest on the pond and The Homestead on the old croft land have electricity and wifi; the cottage has a normal kitchen and bathroom.
A small shop at Base Camp reception sells local food and ready meals, there is a pond-side sauna and a wellbeing hut, and walking, cycling and paddling start nearby. No pets are allowed at any of the units.
