Sykeside sits at the head of Patterdale below Dove Crag, Hart Crag and Fairfield, with Brotherswater a short walk away. Tent pitches are spread across the grass and several footpaths start at the gate, including routes up High Street. A pub, the Brotherswater Inn, is inside the site grounds, so dinner is a short walk from your tent. The site stays open through winter, so it is popular with ice climbers and winter walkers; only the Christmas break is closed.

Twenty-five hardstanding pitches with hook-up take motorhomes, campervans, caravans and roof tents. Grass pitches are tents only: the licence rules out sleeping in a vehicle on grass. Showers are free, push-button, and there are laundry machines, a shop, gas exchange, ice-pack freezing and EV charging in the pub car park. The same site also lets two unfurnished camping pods, a nine-room bunkhouse, a Caravan and Motorhome Club CL area and, through a separate operator, tipis. Fires are allowed in a raised fire pit you bring, out by 11pm. Groups over six adults and stag or hen parties are not taken.
