Graig Wen sits on a hillside of woods and meadows above the Mawddach Estuary near Barmouth, with the flat Mawddach Trail reached by a short, steep track from the site. Tent campers pitch in spread-out fields where most pitches have no vehicle access: you park in the car park and wheelbarrow your kit across, with a lift on some arrival afternoons. Each pitch has a stone fire pit and logs are sold on site.
Campervans, motorhomes and small caravans use a separate hardstanding area with seven pitches, optional electric hook-up and the main washblock, open from March to early January. Tents and vans are kept apart because the track to the lower fields is too steep for towing.
There is no playground or clubhouse, just space to roam, a small shop with pastries, coffee and local beer, and a bus stop at the gate for Barmouth and Dolgellau. The site also lets yurts, a shepherd's hut, two quarry wagons and five two-bedroom cottages.
