Efford Downs is a sloping, open field on the edge of Bude, down a signed lane just past the Brendon pub on the Widemouth Bay road. Pitching is informal: there is no check-in desk, you park where you camp, above or to the right of the white-topped marker posts, and there are flat spots if you hunt for them.

Facilities are basic, with water, flushing toilets and hot showers, and you need to bring your own loo roll and a torch. The draw is the location. The coast path, Summerleaze and Crooklets beaches, the sea pool and the canal are all close enough to leave the car where it is. Tents and campervans are welcome, but large motorhomes and caravans are not, because of the narrow lane. Small fires and barbecues are fine if raised off the grass, and there are bell tents and surf-and-camp bundles with a local surf school.
