Acton Field Campsite

Simple three-hectare field above Langton Matravers with views to Swanage Bay, a mile's walk to the coast path, and flat per-tent pricing.

  • Some dogs

Acton Field is a no-frills sloping pasture on the Isle of Purbeck, with views over Swanage Bay, the Purbeck Hills and on a clear day the Isle of Wight. Pitches are not allocated in advance. You book the dates, then choose your own flat spot when you arrive and pay, and you park right beside your tent.

The price depends on what you bring: a one-person tent, a medium or large tent, or a campervan, motorhome or caravan, with electric hook-up as an extra. The facilities are basic: flush toilets, 20p showers, washing-up sinks, freezers for ice packs, a chemical disposal point and phone-charging booths. All the water on site is drinking water.

A footpath across fields reaches the coast path in about a mile, towards Dancing Ledge and Chapman's Pool. The Kings Arms in the village and the Square and Compass at Worth Matravers are within walking distance, a bus stop is five minutes away and Swanage is about three miles off. Dogs are allowed on a lead at the owners' discretion, and wood fires are banned.
