Westgate has been run by the same family since 1952 and sits beside the River Wear in upper Weardale. Alongside a block of owner-occupied statics, a small touring area offers 16 hardstandings for caravans and motorhomes and 8 grass pitches for tents.
Tents are charged per person rather than per pitch, and eight of the tent pitches can have a hook-up on request. A ford runs beside the site where children can paddle, though cars use it too. Stanhope, with shops, pubs and an outdoor pool, is about five miles away and the nearest shop is two miles west at St John's Chapel.
