Tarka Trail Camping

Family-run summer campsite at Yelland on the Taw estuary with a private gate onto the Tarka Trail, a new heated washblock, 18 hook-ups and dogs welcome.

  • Dogs welcome

Tarka Trail Camping is a large, level grass field on a farm at Yelland, on the Taw estuary between Barnstaple and Bideford. A private gate at the edge of the site opens straight onto the traffic-free Tarka Trail, so walkers and cyclists can leave the car and head to Instow, Fremington Quay or Bideford. Tents, trailer tents, campervans, motorhomes and caravans are all taken, with 18 electric hook-up pitches and a separate sheltered area for people arriving on foot or by bike.

The amenity block is newly built, with underfloor heating, hot showers, a family bathroom, a wet room for disabled guests and baby changing, and there is a covered dishwashing room, a motorhome waste point, free wifi and a device charging station. Reception sells ice cream and a few basics in the afternoons. Dogs are welcome on a lead, though not in the washblock. Open fires and disposable barbecues are banned, and a microbrewery with pizza is next door. The site is open from late March to late September.

Prices are charged per person rather than per pitch, with a cheaper rate for people without a car.
