Wimbleball Campsite sits beside the reservoir at Wimbleball Lake on the edge of Exmoor, a short walk from the water and the dam path. It is run by the charity South West Lakes Trust. There are 22 pitches: five hardstandings with hook-up, seven grass pitches with hook-up and ten without, so tents, caravans and motorhomes all have a spot. An overflow field opens in August.

If you would rather not pitch, there are two wooden camping pods, a self-contained cabin and, in late summer, furnished belle tents. The site has free showers, washing-up facilities, a baby changing room and waste disposal. Exmoor is a Dark Sky Reserve and the lake has its own stargazing hub where you can borrow a telescope. The Activity Centre hires kayaks, canoes and paddleboards. Dogs are free on the pitches but not allowed in the glamping units.
