Newnes is a small touring park on a family farm on the edge of Ellesmere, about a ten-minute walk from the town and the Llangollen Canal. Robin and Jane run it for over-18s only, so it is quiet. The pitches are level, well-drained grass spread across three fields; field one faces the Welsh hills and the other two look east over farmland towards the canal. Every pitch has its own electric hook-up, a mains water tap and a night light, and there are a few hardstandings.

Tents, caravans and motorhomes all pay the same flat nightly rate, which covers the hook-up, showers, fishing and dogs. The toilet blocks are heated, and the newest one in field three has pan-washing sinks. There is a heated outdoor shower just for dogs and a dog-walking field next door. You are on a working farm with horses, sheep and cattle, so dogs stay on leads. The owners also let Big Hill Cottage, a two-bedroom cottage with a hot tub, in the hamlet.
