Cornish Tipi Holidays has been running since 1996 on about 20 acres of wooded valley around the old Tregildrans Quarry, a few miles inland from Port Isaac. Around a dozen canvas tipis sit either together in a Village Field or singly in their own clearings; they come with rugs and fairy lights, and the private-site ones add a gas stove, cool box and mats. You bring bedding and an airbed.
You can also bring your own tent to a private woodland pitch or the shared meadow, and a few campervans park up on the meadow grass. There is no mains electricity anywhere, so torches and foot pumps are the order of the day. Campfires are encouraged, and the spring-fed lake is free to swim in, fish for trout in, or potter about on in boats and canoes (no lifeguard).
Dogs are not allowed at all, apart from assistance dogs. Cars stay in the car park once you have unloaded, and speakers are not welcome, though a guitar round the fire is fine. The site also hosts marquee weddings in summer, with amplified music until midnight, so ask about dates before you book. Port Gaverne beach is about five minutes away and Polzeath surf under fifteen.
