Barrisdale Estate sits on the shore of Barrisdale Bay in Knoydart, roughly halfway between Kinloch Hourn and Inverie. There is no mobile or phone coverage, no rubbish collection and the estate runs off-grid on hydro, solar and a generator, so you carry your rubbish out and treat or boil your water.
Campers use a designated field next to the bothy, which provides toilets and cold running water; electricity is available inside the bothy. It makes a natural base for the hills behind. Dogs are welcome. Payment is by honesty box in the bothy.
The estate also lets the Bay View Cottage, the Stables and the White House as self-catering, and runs the bothy first come, first served for the same per-person rate as the campsite. Access is on foot from Kinloch Hourn or Inverie (each about four hours); check the contact page for road closures near Kinloch Hourn.
