The Croft Campsite

Small family-run Suffolk village campsite with heated-floor showers, a play barn, a dog paddock and 25 electric pitches, plus a pod and canvas tent to hire.

  • Dogs welcome
  • Campfires
  • Glamping

The Croft sits on the green in Ubbeston, a small village in rural Suffolk roughly halfway between Halesworth and Framlingham. It is run by Maria and Guy Hindley, took the Campsite of the Year title in 2024 by its own account, and takes tents, caravans, motorhomes and campervans. Pitches are flat, marked out and over 11 metres wide, 25 of them with electric hook-up.

Wet weather is well covered: a play barn with table tennis, table football and ride-on toys, and a cart lodge with picnic tables, fridges and freezers. Outside there is a playground, a recreation field, a third-of-an-acre paddock where dogs can run off the lead, and a hare hunt for children every Saturday. The shower block has underfloor heating and unlimited hot water, and there are two family rooms and an accessible bathroom.

Every pitch has a fire bowl, and the site sells the wood to burn in it. Pastries are on offer each morning and bacon rolls on Sundays, and there are Friday night barbecues. Laxfield, two miles away, has two pubs, a Co-op and a museum, and the Suffolk Heritage Coast is about 25 minutes by car. A separate field called the Birchfield, with 13 pitches, suits group bookings.

  • Underfloor-heated shower block with unlimited hot water
  • Play barn, playground and weekly hare hunt
  • Fenced-off dog paddock for off-lead runs
  • Fire bowl on every pitch, wood on sale
  • Pod and canvas tent already pitched
