South Whittlieburn is a working farm up Brisbane Glen, about two miles from the seafront at Largs, run by Katie and Chris and their three sons since 2019. The tent field is relaxed about where you pitch, in the spirit of wild camping but with hot showers and toilets a short walk away. Cars are kept off the pitches, which keeps the grass in good shape and the field safe for children.
Tourers, motorhomes and campervans can choose between hardstanding and grass pitches, with plenty of electric hook-ups, shower and toilet blocks across the site and chemical disposal points. Trailer tents and rooftop tents are accepted too. Pitch Up 'n' Pig Out serves hot and cold filled rolls and fresh coffee. Dogs are welcome on leads because free-range chickens wander the field. Fire pits and wood are sold on site, barbecues go on the slabs provided, and there is a quiet time from 10pm.
