- Campfires
Chiltern Retreat is run by the Connell family on a 3,700-acre farm in the hills above the Hambleden Valley, near Frieth. You choose between four areas: woodland pitches under the trees, the open Broadfield Meadow, the eight-acre Park Field beside the village cricket pitch, and Lower Court Farm near Lane End, which is mostly used for exclusive group hire.
Every booking gets a fire pit and some logs each evening. The Woodland and Broadfield blocks were refurbished in 2024 and have hot showers, washing-up sinks, shared fridge-freezers and a hut with charging points. There are no hook-ups, no wifi and no shop beyond an honesty box of ice and firelighters. Tents, small campervans and hammocks only; large motorhomes and caravans are turned away. Dogs are welcome on a lead.
