Cae Lal sits down a lane on the edge of Bangor, between Snowdonia (Eryri) and Anglesey. The camping is a secluded meadow of 18 non-electric pitches where cars stay in the car park and you wheelbarrow your gear in. Around it are a deck-mounted yurt and emperor tents, furnished and empty bell tents, two small cabins (one with a wood-fired hot tub) and a six-person farmhouse.

Toilets and showers are rustic: compost loos, hot showers and eco soap provided, so bring nothing chemical. A communal shed has a kitchenette, fridge-freezer, games and a phone charging point, and there is a play area and woodland path. Fire pits with a grill are hired from the site and logs bought on the spot. It is quiet and screen-light (no wifi), at least one person in each party must be 25 or over, and the wood-fired spa is booked separately.
