Norfolk Brickyard

Secluded, no-electric, no-dogs camping in an old brickyard near Holkham, with campfire rings on every pitch and a few safari tents.

  • Campfires
  • Glamping

The Brickyard is a wild-feeling site in the woods and scrub of a former brickworks on the North Norfolk coast, run by a couple who live on site. Pitches are screened by trees and bushes, most are completely private, and every one has a ring of bricks for a fire. There is no hook-up, but there are flushing loos, hot showers, a bucket shower and a washing-up stand with drinking water.

A ramshackle communal barn has phone-charging sockets, open wifi, a chest freezer for ice packs and an occasional bar. There is also a cob oven and bikes to hire; Holkham beach is 25 to 35 minutes by bike, and the sea is about an hour on foot.

Dogs are not allowed, as the hosts protect the wildlife that wanders through. Five safari tents with wood burners sleep two to eight. Camping bookings are by email only and open on 1 March; bank holidays are booked Friday to Monday.

  • Private pitches with a fire ring each
  • No light pollution for stargazing
  • Bike hire for Holkham beach
  • Communal barn and cob oven
