Freshwater Camp Equipment Trust Campsite

Fully equipped summer camp field in Freshwater for youth organisations, hired a week at a time with marquee, ridge tents and cookhouse for up to 60.

  • Glamping

This is a traditional organised-camping field off Court Road on the edge of Freshwater, next to an orchard and looking up at Tennyson Down. It is run by a small trust formed by former Boys' Brigade officers after the 92nd London Company closed in 1988, so that youth groups could keep camping there.

It is not a public campsite. Each summer the trust puts up a camp for about six weeks and lets it to one group at a time, Saturday to Saturday. The kit is all provided: a 40ft marquee, sixteen ridge tents, groundsheets, tables and benches, a permanent cookhouse with two industrial cookers, fridges and a freezer, a store and a recently renovated toilet block with hot and cold water. There are no showers on site; groups usually arrange showers at the West Wight Sports Centre in Freshwater.

Totland Bay is about a 15-minute walk away, Colwell Bay a mile and Freshwater Bay a mile and a quarter, and Freshwater village with its shops and buses is ten minutes on foot. Court Road is a single-track lane, so minibuses rather than coaches are the practical way in.

  • Whole camp provided: marquee, ridge tents and cookhouse
  • View of Tennyson Down
  • 15-minute walk to Totland Bay
  • Ten minutes' walk to Freshwater village
  • Cheaper per head for bigger groups
